Study Abroad

ORVIETO, ITALY

The School of Art offers an exceptional opportunity to study in Italy at the Orvieto International Institute of Classical Studies. The Institute is located in the central town square of Orvieto, one of the most beautiful and historic locations in Italy. Perched dramatically on a massive plateau, you will study in a city with picturesque views, stunning architecture, and unique cultural traditions. Archaeological sites such as Underground Orvieto, the Crocefisso del Tufo Etruscan cemetery and the Cannicella ruins of Etruscan, Roman, and Late Antique civilizations are nearby.

Courses are taught in the spring, summer, and fall. All courses are in English with professors alternating each semester. Past offerings have included:

  • Etruscan Art and Archaeology
  • Disegno: Drawing + Invention
  • Picture Book Art + Design
  • Libro Concetti: Visual Narratives
  • Art and the Classical Ideal
  • Watercolor

For more information on Art in Orvieto and how to apply, please click here. All art-related course offerings will be advertised through the listserv and flyers, with an informational meeting held each spring.

GRADUATE STUDIO ART EXCHANGE OPPORTUNITY

Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, Slovakia

Each year, a School of Art patron underwrites partial expenses for a graduate student to participate in an exchange program with the Academy of Fine Art and Design in Bratislava. The Academy sends one student to UA in the fall, and the School of Art chooses one student to participate each spring.

OTHER STUDY ABROAD OPPORTUNITIES

Many other study abroad opportunities exist through the Office of International Affairs. In addition to operating its own programs, Study Abroad counsels students on study abroad programs run by other American universities, private companies, and foreign universities. It also offers an extensive library of literature and videotapes on specific programs.

Always check with your Academic Advisor to verify how units will apply to your degree program before you enroll.

Contact an academic advisor or set up an advising appointment to learn more.

Congrats to Nathan Abel (MFA '09, Printmaking), who will host the opening reception for his exhibition "Nesting" on Friday, Feb. 3, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Nicolaysen Art Museum in Casper, Wyoming.

"In Nesting, the work tells the story of when my wife and I began planning a family. We anticipated problems but had no idea of the long and traumatic path ahead of us. It is through my work I hope to shed light on infertility, child loss, and adoption. I want to show the hardships and joy that can come with creating a family and honor the experience we and so many others have been through." - Nathan Abel
