This lovely cardboard sculpture was done by Elizabeth Webster, a junior at the UArizona School of Art studying Art and Visual Culture Education. The sculpture is titled “Hollow Home” and is a reflective piece.
.
The beehive represents the emptiness, ugliness, and discomfort of my childhood house. I want my audience to feel the same unwelcomeness from this piece that I felt in my own home. Additionally I want my audience to note that even though I felt sad in my childhood home, I am happier now.

Last month Arizona Biennial 2020 artists Perla Segovia and Julia Arriola shared insights into their creative practice and the ways in which art-making is connected to activism.
After traveling the world and graduating from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Textile Technology, Perla Segovia now resides in Arizona with her husband and their two children, where she is a Master of Fine Arts candidate at the University of Arizona. Her artistic mission is to advocate for the value of immigrants and immigration to our nation; she aims to celebrate their strength, perseverance, dreams and sacrifices.
