AND we are live!!! The last development of the semester is a sort of highlights reel for our graduates. I am hoping it is a prototype for the future, but I can't take any credit, it was all my graduate interns. Fabulous freaking job to all 3 of them!

Our Monuments | Benjamin Hoste
Mar 3 – Mar 12, 2020 | Reception: Mar 4, 3:30 — 4:30pm
Lionel Rombach Gallery

With Our Monuments artist Benjamin Hoste has encased personal mementos in rectilinear blocks of concrete. Obscured from view and with their common functions debased, this erasure is powerful and absolute. At remove, a childhood journal, intimate Polaroids, and personal ephemera are forever silenced. But just as this action debases it also transforms. Concrete may eliminate the primary function of each object but it does not destroy. The work reveals through obscuring, confronting notions of memory, attachment, resentment, sentimentality, and guilt. As our culture continues its massive migration from the physical to the digital, our notions of memory as it connects to the material is poised to unalterably shift, both in relation to what we desire to remember as well as forget.

2020 School of Art Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition
March 19 – April 2, 2020
Reception: March 26, 4—5:30pm

The School of Art is proud to present the 2020 Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition. The show takes place annually each spring semester to highlight the work of our studio and AVCE undergraduates. Students were encouraged to submit a fully realized artist statement
or design philosophy along with 6 works that display the professional skills developed throughout their course of study. Our distinguished faculty juried each application and selected the art that highlights our students’ highest achievements from their degree pursuits.
This year’s exhibition will include work selected from over 80 students in Illustration + Design, 2D, Photo, 3D Extended Media and our Art and Visual Culture Education students.

Please join the School of Art and the Art Advisory Board in celebrating the works of our accomplished scholars. The School of Art Scholarship Exhibition is the annual event showcasing the work of our 2019 -2020 endowed scholarship recipients.
The exhibition represents the breadth of visual art making, teaching, and scholarship from students at all levels of their academic program. The works pull from a variety of different concepts, themes, and materials from all divisions within the School of Art. The range of creation is just a small selection highlighting the contemporary issues our students are exploring within their studio practices.
