Undergraduate 3D & Extended Media

Located within the Art Building are large, equipped wood and metal shops, a ceramic shell facility and a metal casting foundry. There is also a wax working/mold making studio and a lecture room with A/V equipment. Below is a list of the equipment within the Art Building and Graduate Studio shops available to students and faculty.

Metalshop

  • 4’x8′ Lincoln 4800 CNC Plasma Cutter
  • Metal lathe
  • Milling machine
  • Drill press
  • 12″ disc sander
  • Bench grinder
  • 1″ band sander
  • Large band saw
  • 16 gauge x 50″ hand roller
  • 55 ton punch
  • 24″ plate and angle shear
  • 30 ton press
  • 3/4″ plate plasma cutter
  • Forge
  • Tig, Mig, Spot and Oxy/Acetylene welding capabilities
  • Various hand, air and electric power tools

Foundry

  • Ceramic shell room
  • Melt Furnace
  • Dewaxing kiln
  • 4’x4′ Sandblasting Cabinet
  • Large capacity air compressor system

Extended Media Facilities

There are multiple spaces available in the School of Art facilities for the development of performance, video, and installation projects. Digital video, sound, and photographic work is supported in our Multimedia Labs and Classrooms, and by a large inventory of video, photographic, and audio equipment that may be checked out by students. A partial list of inventory includes: Canon 7D cameras, Canon camcorders, lighting kits, audio kits, green screens, Zoom H4N kits, booms, cam rails, rear and front screen projectors, DVD players, speakers, etc.

There are several OSCR facilities that support student and faculty multimedia coursework with specialized software, equipment, and technical advice, including a CFA multi-media lab with 30 Mac stations. Ph.D. student Sedona Heidinger was among six presenters at today's "Collective" Art History Symposium at the University of Arizona Museum of Art. Other speakers were Barbie Kim, Bentley Brown, Shen Qu, Gabriel Quick and Dr. Gregory Sholette (keynote). Art History Prof. Sarah Moore is a board member of the Institute for the Study of International Expositions (ISIE), which is holding its second annual online symposium March 23-24.

Moore will chair one of the sessions at the event, which features academic papers and top designers involved in exposition design. ISIE is the brainchild of UA Architectural History Prof. Lisa Schrenk.
