Emerging Conversations Symposium

November 16, 2024

Venue:
School of Art
Start Time:
9:00AM

Graduate students in the Art & Visual Culture Education program will present the 11th annual Emerging Conversations Symposium (#EC2024) on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024. This year’s symposium — “Bodies, Materials, and Spaces in Art & Visual Culture Education” emphasizes the significance of embodiment in art education.

Since 2012, the symposium has provided a space for professional and personal growth for art educators both in practice and pre-service. It has a history of highlighting interdisciplinary, social justice-oriented engagement with the arts and education through a wide range of work, projects and ideas on what the arts in education can be.

This year’s symposium invites the creator and viewer to consider the physical body and their senses as well as how emotions influence the creation and interpretation of art, highlighting the body as an active participant. The theme urges us to rethink art education and explore the possibilities for creation and learning at the intersection of practical and conceptual spaces.

“We envision EC2024 as an opportunity for undergraduate/graduate students, formally trained educators, museum/community educators and non-academic art educators to come together to learn, unlearn and share knowledge across disciplines,” the symposium’s organizers said.

The call for presentation submission deadline is Monday, Oct. 7. Apply here

Conference registration will open Monday, Oct. 21.  For any questions, comments or concerns, contact Emerging Conversations Planning Committee members Ling-Yu Chou (choulingyu@arizona.edu) and Jenna S. Green (jsgreen@arizona.edu).
