An Arid Barrier is an immersive installation that creates a physical manifestation of a mental state. Having spent the first 25 years of my life oceanside, the desert has become both my inspiration and restraint. Equally focused on the arid and the oceanic, this work began with feelings of estrangement, and moved into an inquiry about how humans react to new landscapes based on their individual nurturing. Combining video, audio and sculptural elements, this work gives viewers a jarring sense of change between oppositional biomes.
