Enjoy Yourself; It’s Closer than You Think
Randy Slack
CLOSING RECEPTION: August 25, 5 – 6:30pm
The large-scale paintings exhibited in Randy Slack’s “Enjoy Yourself; It’s Closer than You Think” reflect a sense of leisure and nostalgia in pairing the painted classic VW Bus with iconography from the 70s and 80s. The works are meant to reference Slack’s upbringing as well as his love affair with the “hippie mobile.” The bus literally drives through several loose narratives within the exhibition, linking adventure, life, love, and loss to the beloved classic car.
The artist’s immense paintings are humorously composed of a mix of cartoons, posing car models, disco- era celebrities or vast landscapes with slyly placed objects just on the horizons, however Slack utilizes the vehicle to symbolically embody experiences, both celebrated and tragic all while making the most out of life.
Randy Slack is a self-taught artist based out of Phoenix, Arizona.
