Olivier Dubois-Cherrier: It’s Only A Matter Of Time

January 23, 2018 to February 1, 2018

Venue: Lionel Rombach Gallery

Esthetic of Decay #8C, Mixed Media, 2016 – 2017

Opening Reception: Jan. 23rd, 2017, 3 – 4:30pm

It’s Only A Matter Of Time is a philosophical inquiry of the main components of our experience of life as human beings, that are comprised of birth (creation), permanent move toward growth, and decay until inexorable death (physical disappearance). The exhibition consists of a harmonious mix of several elements that are intended to offer the viewer a range of experiences about durability, as well as the opportunity to question the relationships we have with the conventions of time that rule and regulate our daily lives, often without considering our perpetual moving nature.

Olivier Dubois-Cherrier is a French-Caribbean artist working in Tucson, AZ. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Miami Art Institute, and he is currently pursuing is MFA at University of Arizona. He has been exhibited in various places internationally, including Guadeloupe, Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic, Paros in the Cyclades, Miami (FL), Indio (CA), twice at the Latin Views Biennial in Connecticut, Tucson (AZ).

Congrats to School of Art senior Grayson Agrella, who has been named a Centennial Achievement Undergraduate Award recipient — one of the highest honors a student can achieve at the University of Arizona. Grayson, a triple major in Art History, Anthropology and French, will be recognized Tuesday by the Dean of Students Office at a luncheon.

“Grayson is one of those rare intellects … who has impressed the Art History faculty with the depth of his passion for the arts and his achievement in every class,” wrote School of Art History Professors Irene Bald Romano and Paul Ivey, who nominated Agrella for the award. “He has made a strong commitment to LGBTQ+ rights and issues — profoundly expressed in his research.” tinyurl.com/SOAgrayson
