Untitled (Corridor) is an installation of cement bricks made from sand and debris collected from specific coordinate locations within the Tucson city limits that have witnessed the death of migrant bodies. Composed by displaced materials the bricks are no longer simple units of construction each one becomes a meditation on the cause of migrant death and disappearance
Karlito Miller Espinosa (b.1989) was born in San Jose, Costa Rica, grew up in Caracas, Venezuela and later in Washington D.C. He currently lives and works in Tucson, Arizona where he is an MFA candidate at the University of Arizona. He earned a BFA in painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art (2012). Until 2015, he worked as an artist assistant to Fred Wilson (MacArthur Fellowship Recipient: 2003 Venice Biennale) and Whitfield Lovell (MacArthur Fellowship Recipient: 1997 Havana Biennial). He has been invited to create public art for various projects around the world including Russia, Puerto Rico, Ukraine,Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico as well as dozens of cities across the United States. His work has been exhibited at the Newark Museum, El Museo del Barrio in Harlem, the Street Art Museum in Russia, the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art in New York, and the Tucson Museum of Art for the 2018 Arizona Biennial.
