My name is John Nofs. I was born and raised in the land of heat and cactus that is Tucson, Arizona.
I work extensively in digital photography as well as analog processes, video production and editing, and alternative photographic techniques including salted paper, gum bichromate, and platinum-palladium printing as well as various types of AI for image creation, editing, and live generative installations.
I have extensive commercial experience shooting everything from weddings, magazines, and events to movie productions. My personal work explores memory, decay, and forgotten histories, notably the Titan series documenting Tucson’s abandoned Cold War missile silos. Current projects include exploring and documenting coastal defense networks in Puget Sound.
For me, photography is about creating a gestalt space that displaces the viewer into a world somehow more real than reality itself.
